Welcome to the official website of The Auckland Chihuahua Club.

Founded in 1965, The Auckland Chihuahua Club's mission is to promote the exhibition and breeding of chihuahuas. We are associated with The New Zealand Kennel Club Inc and hold championship shows and ribbon parades in accordance with NZKC rules and regulations. Our member base consists of pet owners and breeders/exhibitors of long and smooth coat chihuahuas throughout the Auckland, Northland, Waikato and Bay Of Plenty regions.

We hold one championship show each year on Easter weekend where members battle it out to earn their place in history with their name engraved on one of our Club's trophies, as well as product from our fantastic sponsors Royal Canin and cash 'n' sash for open competition. This is the highlight of our events calendar and attracts entries from all over New Zealand. Occasionally we are granted a license to hold a second championship show in the latter half of the year.

Regularly throughout the year we hold ribbon parades; these are fun family events for pet owners and opportunities for breeders to practise with new puppies as a wide range of chihuahuas get together for an afternoon of light-hearted competition. They are an excellent way to socialise chihuahuas with other people and dogs. Our ribbon parades feature trainee or newly-qualified judges hoping to gain experience with our delightful tiny breed. Breed classes at ribbon parades are an informal version of the breed judging seen at championship level (with dogs  and   bitches   separated   first    according to

gender and then according to age) except that champion show dogs are not allowed to enter, creating a more even playing field! As well as breed classes we also hold fun special classes such as Best Eyes, Best Pet and Best Child Handler to ensure there is something for every chihuahua and every owner. Colourful ribbons are awarded to all winners and place-getters - and it's amazing how many proud pet owners end the day with a mountain of ribbons!

We are also looking at holding organised walks for chihuahua owners, where members and their dogs get together for a social stroll through a park or forest.

We offer you 1500 words and up to 3 photos with which to advertise your kennel and achievements to the world, free to any financial member. You can also share your favourite photos with other chihuahua lovers by contributing them to the Photo Gallery.
